ABOUT
DARLING ISLAND APARTMENTS

Darling Island Apartments are appropriately named after the parcel of land on which they are built, one of Sydney Harbour’s original islands which, with the passage of time in the early colonial days, became part of the mainland. The apartments were built by Multiplex Constructions and the first residents took occupancy in late 2004.

The complex comprises 107 apartments spread across three buildings, all of which are designed to reflect their working waterfront warehouse heritage. The apartments range in size from one bedroom to large multi-level dwellings. The central or southerly building is six stories, north facing and houses the main reception manned by a Concierge. The eastern building of five stories faces the city and Barangaroo while the western building of five stories looks out at Balmain and Jones Bay Wharf. All three buildings look onto Ballaarat Park, a beautiful private green haven in the middle of the city. The two levels of basement support the many plant rooms which service the complex plus easy access, designated parking spaces for 236 cars.

SUSTAINABILITY

Darling Island apartments has been a proactive participant in the City of Sydney Smart Green Apartments (SGA) initiative since its inception in 2017. Even before joining this program, a number of major projects had been undertaken to reduce energy usage and contribute to the environment. Sustainability initiatives are overseen by a Sustainability Sub-Committee of owners which works into the Strata Committee.

The SGA program facilitated a number of studies which addressed:

  • Electricity usage
  • Solar power
  • Gas usage
  • Water usage and
  • Waste management, including recycling.

Using the information provided by the SGA program, as well as studies commissioned independently by Darling Island Apartments, a program of works has been undertaken and continues to today, which contributes to the national environmental program. A by-product of the many initiatives has been a significant reduction in the running costs for the complex.  A Sustainability Sub-Committee continues to monitor progress and identify opportunities for additional initiatives.

The increasing state and national focus on converting to electric vehicles will continue to stimulate take-up. Darling Island Apartments has both an intermediate and long term plan to support the charging of electric vehicles. Under both the intermediate and long term plans, any occupier with an electric vehicle will be able to charge their vehicle in their allocated parking space(s).

WHAT OUR RESIDENTS SAY

  • “Darling Island provides luxury and total convenience. Ferries, buses and trains a walk away. With a concierge, building manager, gymnasium and heated pool”
  • “I feel like I’m living on a cruise ship, surrounded by water, with ferries, superyachts and launches cruising by.”
  • “I love the peace of Ballaarat Park and the walking. Every morning I walk for four kilometres beside the Harbour – and if it rains I have the fully-equipped gymnasium.”
  • “At last count we had more than 100 restaurants, cafes and hotels within walking distance.”
  • “The history of Darling Island is a story of aboriginal middens, farming, shipbuilding, railways and soldier leaving for war, then thousands off migrants arriving. Finally it was the sight of the Sydney casino, and the media centre for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Amazing!”
